Our Mission
With gratitude and respect,
This is the living attitude and mindset of ours, the creators of this photobook, towards the glorious past, the feats and losses, and even the glories and silences, like a beautiful and tragic epic of the golden generation of the Vietnamese People’s Air Force pilots.
We, born as the war drew to an end, were fortunate not to experience its horrors firsthand. Instead, we gleaned its lessons from old books, childhood tales, and the impressions left by the soldiemories, contemplation, emotion, and pride.
Proud to be the descendants of Air Force servicemen, we possess the fortunate combination of expertise in our field and a keen sensitivity to the artistry it entails. We believe in our ability to perceive beauty, to feel a fraction of the emotions of the pilots and their accomplishments of bygone days, to observe feelings stirred up in their hearts as we gaze upon the weathered uniforms proudly bearing faded insignias, the sparse or heavy-laden medals on their chests, and the eyes accustomed to distant horizon that still gleams with the brilliance of memory, of fatigue, losses, quiet solace found amidst the tumult of duty, as those Air Force soldiers finally landed back to their homeland, where loved ones await, amidst fields, old homes, and surrounded by their grandchildren..
That is what inspired us to create these images – to preserve a part of the heroic Air Force’s past through portraits of 108 courageous pilots of the Vietnamese sky.
With deepest admiration and gratitude, rs of our forefathers’ generation, their joys and even sorrows have always imbued us with me

THE CHALLENGE OF NIGHT FLYING
Engaging in night flying necessitates a shift in routine, requiring pilots to rest during daylight hours and operate under the cover of darkness. While the fundamental processes of takeoff, flight, and landing remain unchanged, the experience of flying at night presents unique challenges compared to daytime operations.

MOBILE EXISTENCE
In the morning, I would take off from Da Phuc Airfield (Hanoi), engage in battle, then land at Yen Bai for lunch. After that, I would take off again, sometimes landing at Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa), Kep (Bac Giang), or Kien An (Hai Phong).
