Ace Vu Ngoc Dinh
Colonel, MiG-21 Pilot – Vietnam People’s Armed Forces Hero
During the US Air Force’s destructive bombing campaign in the North, Mr. Vu Ngoc Dinh, a MiG-21 pilot from the Red Star Air Force Division, participated in eight combat missions, firing 12 shots and shooting down six US aircraft. In total, he downed three F-105Ds, one F-4D, one MH-53 helicopter, and one EB-66 electronic warfare aircraft. Additionally, he commanded the unit that downed five other aircraft, earning him the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces in 1970 and making him one of the 16 Ace pilots of the Vietnam War. After 1975, he served as the Deputy Commander of the 371st Air Division and the Principal of the Air Force Officer School until 1989. From 1989 to 2003, he served as the Director General of the Vietnam Helicopter Corporation (now the Vietnam Helicopter Corporation), and the Director of the Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO). He retired in 2003.

Ngày 10.5.1972, biên đội Lê Thanh Đạo (phải) –
Vũ Văn Hợp (Trung đoàn 927) xuất kích bảo vệ cầu Lai Vu và cầu Phú Lương, đã hạ 2 chiếc F-4. Đây là trận không chiến “đẫm máu nhất” mùa hè 1972. Không quân Việt Nam lần đầu tiên sử dụng cả 4 Trung đoàn chiến đấu (MiG-17, MiG-19 và MiG-21), kiên cường chống lại hàng trăm máy bay Mỹ. Trong trận không chiến ác liệt và kéo dài này, Không quân Việt Nam tổn thất 6 chiếc MiG, 5 phi công hy sinh, đồng thời ta cũng hạ 6 máy bay Mỹ.
